Tell me about yourself for fresher (Job Interview)

I still remember my first interview. I was a fresher. I entered the room and the interviewer’s first question was ‘Tell me about yourself

Of course, I knew all about myself but I was not prepared for this question.

I could not understand what to tell about myself. Where to begin and where to end.

Due to the lack of preparation,  my response was not so good because It needs preparation for a better response.

I’m going to tell you how to prepare for ‘Tell me about yourself if you are a fresher.

tell me about yourself for freshers

Why Do First Impressions Matter?

In an interview, first impressions are very important. The first thing the interviewer learns about you, you teach him or her by how you introduce yourself.

The interview is your chance to communicate your ability and skills directly to the judges.

Because interviewing is a skill, anyone can learn to interview effectively.

The key to a successful interview is preparation and careful listening.

How are you looking?

The first opinion an interview makes is going to be based on how you look. Make sure your hair is neat – get a haircut if possible.

Dress in conservative business attire.

All clothes should be neat, clean, and pressed.

Avoid excessive jewelry, makeup, cologne, or perfume. It’s important to dress professionally for your interview.

You’ll want that first impression to be not just a good one, but, a great one.

A decathlete dressed professionally is going to make a better impression than the decathlete dressed in scruffy jeans and a t‐shirt.

Your Confidence

The way to create a favorable first impression is to be sure you appear confident and open.

When you meet your interviewer for the first time, make eye contact during the introduction.

And repeat the interviewer’s name as you shake hands and thank them for inviting you to the interview.

Be very assured and self‐confident when entering the room.

Be willing or ready to offer a handshake and be sure that it is firm and demonstrates confidence.

Be sure to remember the names of the judges interviewing you.

The interview will progress on better terms if you are able to respond using the name of the person you are speaking with.

Tell me about yourself
(For fresher)

Generally, In any job interview,  candidates are invited to introduce themselves through “Tell me about yourself” whether you are a fresher or experienced.

This is the very first thing that is asked you in a job interview. It is one of the most common interview questions.

The question is considered a very reliable measure of a candidate’s self-confidence and their degree of preparation by interviewers.

This question sounds easy because you know all about yourself.

But giving a good answer to this question in the context of a job interview can be stressful and complicated.

In common with all open-ended questions, there is no obvious answer to tell me about yourself.

It’s all on you to choose what to say and when to stop saying it.

Your Response

Your response should provide all the relevant information about you. It should be simple and impressive.

The first thing you should keep in mind that an interviewer does not want to know about your life history.

The interviewer is interested only in knowing whether you have the skills and qualities necessary to fulfill the requirement of the position which are you interviewing.

You should have a clear intention of informing and persuading the interviewer that you are a strong candidate.

Prepare exactly what you are going to say. Your response should be a short and focused statement that sounds interesting to the listener.

Tell about your history, strength, and skills in a way that illustrates how you are the ideal person for the position.

You make your introduction interesting by keeping it short (30 seconds) and by showing that you are interested in sharing and listening.

As a fresher, you can use the following three-step formula to introduce yourself in any job interview confidently.

Step- 1

Greet and tell your name, then use some adjectives to define your personality.

So, as  a fresher or student, a good way to start can be;

“Hi, I am Kajal Verma. I am a hardworking engineering graduate specialized in computer science engineering with overall CGPA…”

Step- 2

In the second step, you talk about your best work.  Something that is you are proud of.

Because  you are a fresher or student  and don’t have any experience,

You can talk about the training you have received and how those skills relate to the job applied.

“Along with my degree, I compted Java, HTML, SQL  courses online and the various technologies  I learned, has helped me develop my final year project called ‘XYZ’ .”

Step- 3

In the third step, you have to tell why you are fit for this job.

Read the job description carefully.

And tell them how your skills are aligned to their requirement.

I’m giving a comprehensive example here of how to tell about yourself.

It might be useful to create your version of self-introduction for your job interview.

As a short-term goal, I am looking for an opportunity to grow my career with a reputed organization like yours.

My vision in life is to make something big in life and bring laurels to the organization I work with. It would be an immense pleasure for me if I am given this opportunity.

I believe that there is something to learn from everyone and that is my biggest strength.

I am a fresher but I would surely adapt to the work environment and put in 100% to enhance my knowledge and skills.

I believe in myself and I am confident that nothing is impossible if we work really hard for it.

Rehearse for Perfection

For sure, this question needs rehearsal to give an impressive answer.  If you don’t agree, try answering it right now and see well you do.

First, make a list of the three important things you want the interviewer to know about you.

Avoid focusing on simple references to things that are already on your resume.

Although this information should form the skeleton of your answer. Around this skeleton should the meat of your answer; your less obvious but important skills.

You need to create an answer that sounds natural and at the same time, interesting.

The way to determine whether your answer is natural is simply by writing a first draft of the answer and then read it aloud.

When you do this, you will probably spot things that you have to change.

Don’t worry too much about making the written answer perfect. You are not going to recite it from paper. Instead,  this is just a chance for you to determine the length of your answer.

There are various things that you may include in your introduction.
