Subject and Verb Agreement Rules & Exercises

दोस्तों आइए जानते हैं कि  कर्ता (Subject) और क्रिया (Verb) के बीच सामंजस्य (Agreement) के क्या नियम (Rules) हैं। इसके अलावा यहां Subject-Verb Agreement पर अभ्यास के लिए कई Exercises दिए गए हैं।

Subject and Verb Agreement Rules

Subject-Verb Agreement

Rule-1  z, s, x, ss, ch, o, or sh से  समाप्त होने वाली क्रियाओं को उनके अंत में –es लगाकर Singular बनाते हैं, जैसे: Wash से Washes, Scratch से Scratches, Kiss से Kisses आदि

  • I wash the car.
  • It washes the car.
  • She washes the car.
  • I go to school.
  • He goes to school.
  • She goes to school.

Rule-2 जब कोई क्रिया y से समाप्त होती है और इसके ठीक पहले कोई व्यंजक (Consonant) होता है तो ऐसी क्रिया को Singular बनाने के लिए y को i में बदलकर -es जोड़ते हैं, जैसे: Try से Tries, Fry से Fries, Cry से Cries आदि

  • You try very hard.
  • He tries very hard.
  • She tries very hard.

Rule-3 नियम -1 और 2 के अंतर्गत आने वाली क्रियाओं को छोड़कर बाकी सभी क्रियाओं को Singular बनाने के लिए उनके अंत में -s लगाते हैं,  जैसे: Like से Likes, Draw से Draws, Help से Helps आदि

  • He likes chips.
    उसे चिप्स पसंद हैं।
  • He draws a map for me.
    वह मेरे लिए एक नक्शा बनाता है।
  • She helps the poor.
    वह गरीबों की मदद करती है।

नोट: क्रिया Be  का एकवचन रूप  I के लिए am होता है और बाकी सभी एकवचन कर्ता (he, she, it, etc) के लिए is होता है। जैसे-

  • I am ready.
    मैं तैयार हूँ।
  • I am happy.
    मैं खुश हूँ।
  • She is my friend.
    वह मेरी दोस्त है।
  • It is wrong.
    यह गलत है।

Important Notes: Rule- 1

Note: 1 Verb to be पर विशेष ध्यान देना आवश्यक है (am, is ,are, was ,were)  verb ‘to be’ कहलाते हैं ।

इनके रूप Person के अनुसार Singular Number में तो बदलते रहते हैं किंतु Plural Number में हर Person के साथ एक से ही रहते हैं । जैसे

Person Singular Plural
First Person
I am/was
We are/were
Second Person
You are/were
You are/were
Third Person
He is/was
They are/were
She is/was
They are/were
It is/was
They are/were

Note: 2 Verb ‘to be’ तथा has और have के singular तथा plural रूप निम्नलिखित होते हैं।

Subject Verb
am
are
is
are
was
were
has
have

Note: 3 Will, shall, would, should, may, might के साथ हमेशा have लगता है  has कभी नहीं subject चाहे singular हो अथवा plural जैसे-

  1. I shall have a new ball.
  2. We shall have new bolls.
  3. He will have a new ball.
  4. They will have new balls.
  5. He may have a new ball.

Rule (नियम): 1 के अनुसार-

(a) यदि subject first person (I या We)   है तो verb plural number मे होगी। जैसे-

I am late.
मुझे देर हो गई है।

We are late.
हमें देर हो गई है।

I love children.
मुझे बच्चों से प्यार है।

We love children.
हम बच्चों को प्यार करते हैं।

(b) यदि subject second person singular number अथवा plural number में है तो Verb भी second person singular अथवा plural number में होगी ।जैसे-

You are a scholar.
आप विद्वान हैं।

 (यहां you singular numberमें है)

You are my friends.
आप मेरे मित्र हो।

 (यहां you plural number में है)

Note: यहां यह याद रखना चाहिए कि अंग्रेजी भाषा में  Iऔर you इस प्रकार किया जाता है जैसे कि वे plural numberमें हो। इसलिए I और you के साथ verb हमेशा plural numberमें प्रयोग होती है। अपवाद केवल यह है कि I के साथ present tense में तथा  am तथा  past tense में  was प्रयोग किया जाता है।

(c) यदि subject third-person singular अथवा plural number मैं है तो verb भी third-person singular अथवाplural number मैं प्रयोग होगी। जैसे-

He is poor.
वह गरीब है।

They are poor.
वे गरीब हैं।

He reads a book.
वह एक किताब पढता है।

They read a book.
वे एक किताब पढ़ते हैं।

He has a new house.

They have a new house.

इस नियम के कुछ अपवाद (Exception)है।

(1) Dare not and need not

यह ऐसी दो verb है जो negative वाक्यों में (जिनमें dareऔर need के बाद notका प्रयोग हुआ हो) singular subject के साथ भी plural numberमें प्रयोग होती है। जैसे-

He dare not oppose me.

They dare not oppose me.

He need not go.

They need not go.

Note: यदि dare या need affirmative वाक्य में प्रयोग होते हैं अर्थात इनके बाद notनहीं आता है तो यह उपयुक्त नियम के अंतर्गत singular subject के साथ singular or plural के साथ plural number में ही प्रयोग होते हैं । जैसे-

  1. He dares.
  2. They dare.
  3. He needs.
  4. They need.

(2) verb of supposition/subjunctive mood

 नियम 1का दूसरा अपवाद (Exception) यह है कि जिन वाक्यों में कोरी कल्पना या असंभव आशा अभिलाषा या शर्त(hope, wish, condition) का भाव हो तो उनमें भी singular subjectके साथ plural verb  का प्रयोग होता है जैसे-

If I were a bird.

Were I a king.

How I wish she were here.

If I were you I would do it.

He behaved as if he were our master.

(3) verb of wish /blessing
